Ingredients
Bee Pollen
Pollen collects on the bodies of bees as they fly from one flower to another in their search for nectar, and bee pollen is a combination of that pollen, bee secretions, and nectar. Bee pollen contains carbohydrates, lipids, protein, minerals, and vitamins, and may also contain bee saliva.
Beeswax
Beeswax is a natural wax produced by honey bees, who use the wax to form cells in the hive for honey storage and larval and pupal protection of their young. Beeswax is anti-allergenic, anti-bacterials, anti-inflammatory, and germicidal, making it an excellent base ingredient in many products.
Propolis
Propolis is a sticky substance collected by bees from tree buds, sap flows, and other botanical sources. It is a complex mix of organic compounds and minerals used by bees to make their hives sterile, waterproof, and less susceptible to mold or bacteria growth. Propolis has antiseptic, antimicrobial, and anti-inflammatory properties, and is widely used in medicine.

I drove, with my three dogs as co-pilots, from Seattle to Ohio in May. On the way back I was caught in a late winter blizzard in South Dakota and was forced to pull over and find a motel in Wall. The next day, intrigued by all the signs, I checked out Wall Drug and bought five 17 oz jars of this honey to take home as gifts! It has been such a hit, especially with my 5 year old granddaughter who loves it on hot buttered toast or straight off a spoon, that I made a special stop at Wall Drug to pick up more jars when I drove back to Ohio for Thanksgiving. Alas! No clover honey to be found 🙁

Let me start by saying, I like honey, but I don’t eat it all that often. And I am not one who likes it in my tea. But I received this as a gift and I recently read that honey can help with treating toothaches. That is certainly true. I have been eating about a tablespoon of this honey a day and placing the honey on the infected area and the pain subsides. The more I eat it, the better the toothache area feels. This is hands down the best honey I have ever had (with one exception to be explained). I love honey and I am very particular about quality and flavor. I have been spending several weeks in Rapid City, South Dakota, every summer since 2010. I don’t remember which year I had the good fortune of trying this honey (it was many years ago), but I consistently find it to be so incredibly delicious, nothing else compares. I threw away the other brands in my cupboard back home and every summer I visit out west, I stock up for the year, usually around 2 – 3 gallons, since it is the only sweetener I use and I give it as a gift at Christmas. I will reveal, I was surprised one summer in Rapid to discover another brand at the farmers market remarkably similar to Black Hills Honey called Sunrise Hives. This turned out to be made by the daughter (and her husband) of the Black Hills Honey owners, so honey excellence runs in the family. Black Hills Honey (and that made by their daughter) is as good as it gets. By the way, this honey works great on a burn, if used immediately, it relieves pain and seems to speed the healing process.

We have been ordering this product, since we visited your farm in 2013! We now use it in place of other sweeteners… in our coffee, for baking, even on our popcorn! It is Healthier, more delicious, and takes very little for great results! We have ordered it for our extended family members, who love it as much as we do. Quirky Note: I noticed lots of bees during the warmer days in winter on the cracked corn I put out for the birds. Turns out the starch on the corn is a source of food for them during the winter months!. I now put mounds out for them!

I have loved this sweet clover honey from the Black Hills honey farm since my first purchase about two years ago. I lived in SD and found this local natural foods store that stocked it (Breadroot). Now I’ve moved down south but will continue to purchase this honey online. I’ve looked around and cannot find anything else that compares! The jars are awesome! I reuse them for other foods. I’ll soon be buying my raw sweet clover honey in the bulk pail so the jars could come in handy for a smaller space to store the honey in use. The only thing I would add is if the label could peel off the jar easier this product would be better than perfect!
